The impact of IT outsourcing on short-term stock prices for a publicly traded firm is noted, mentioning that investors tend to respond negatively to large outsourcing contracts, the receipt of large contracts by small vendors, and the outsourcing of customized software. The importance of employing centralized decision making to ensure alignment between business strategy and IT investments is discussed.
