Herbert Holik also holds in-company workshops for training methodical and social competences. He is the co-author of several books and encyclopedias related to paper science, as well as having over 140 technical and scientific papers and more than 70 patents covering most areas of paper making to his name. After working as a post-doc at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, at the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology in the United States, and finally at the Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin, he joined the vacuum group at PTB in Berlin in 1990 that he leads since 1992. He has authored many scientific articles in the field as well as contributions to textbooks and edits the German edition of this book, &quot;Wutz Handbuch Vakuumtechnik&quot;. He is active in the field of national (DIN) and international (ISO) standardization in vacuum technology. From 2005 to 2008, Karl Jousten has served as President of the German Vacuum Society. Jens Nielsen has a PhD degree (1989) in Biochemical Engineering from the Danish Technical University (DTU), and after that established his independent research group and was appointed full Professor there in 1998. He was Fulbright visiting professor at MIT in 1995-1996. At DTU he founded and directed the Center for Microbial Biotechnology. In 2008 he was recruited as Professor and Director to Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Jens Nielsen has received numerous Danish and international awards including the Nature Mentor Award, and is member of several academies, including the National Academy of Engineering in USA and the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. He is a founding president of the International Metabolic Engineering Society.

Stefan Hohmann is Head of the Department of Biology and Biological Engineering at Chalmers University (Sweden). He studied biology and microbiology at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), where he received his PhD in 1987 and became professor in 1993. He held positions as visiting professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and the University of the Orange Free State (South Africa), before joining the University of Gothenburg in 1999 as professor, a position he hold until his change to Chalmers University in 2015. Stefan Hohmann serves as chairman of several committees and is the Swedish representative at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Research Council.

Sang Yup Lee is Distinguished Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He is currently the Director of the Center for Systems and Synthetic Biotechnology, Director of the BioProcess Engineering Research Center, and Director of the Bioinformatics Research Center. He received numerous awards, including the National Order of Merit, the Merck Metabolic Engineering Award and the Elmer Gaden Award. Lee is the Editor-in-Chief of the Biotechnology Journal and Associate Editor and board member of numerous other journals. Lee is currently serving as a member of Presidential Advisory Committee on Science and Technology (Korea).

Professor Gregory Stephanopoulos is the W. H. Dow Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) and Director of the MIT Metabolic Engineering Laboratory. He is also Instructor of Bioengineering at Harvard Medical School (since 1997). He has been recognized by numerous awards from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) (Wilhelm, Walker and Founders awards), American Chemical Society (ACS), Society of industrial Microbiology (SIM), BIO (Washington Carver Award), the John Fritz Medal of the American Association of Engineering Societies, and others. In 2003 he was elected member of the National Academy of Engineering (USA) and in 2014 President of AIChE.

                        , Peter Jeschke gained his PhD in 1986 in organic chemistry at the University of Halle/Wittenberg (Germany), after which he moved to Fahlberg-List Company (Germany) to pursue agrochemical research before moving to the Institute of Neurobiology and Brain Research, German Academy of Sciences. In 1989 he joined Bayer in Animal Health Research and eight years later he took a position in insecticide research, where he is currently principal scientist in Small Molecules Research Pest Control Chemistry at Bayer Crop Science Division. Since 2011, he has been honorary professor at the University Düsseldorf (Germany). Prof. Dr. Jeschke is an Associate Editor for ?Pest Management Science? of the Society of Chemical Industry (UK) and he has more than 240 patent applications and publications to his name.

Matthias Witschel gained his PhD in 1994 at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany). During his education, he also worked as a visiting researcher at UC Irvine (USA) and the College de France, Paris (France). After his post-doctoral stay at Stanford University (USA), he started in 1996 at BASF in herbicide research, where he is now senior principal scientist in global herbicide research, based in Ludwigshafen (Germany). Dr. Witschel is the author and co-author of over 270 patents and scientific publications.

Wolfgang Krämer gained his PhD in organic chemistry from the TU Stuttgart (Germany) in 1968, after which he joined the Institute of Textile Chemistry at Stuttgart University, before moving to Bayer Plant Protection as lab leader in crop protection research in 1970. Between 1984 and 1990 he was Head of Global Chemistry Fungicides, and Head of Insecticide Chemistry thereafter. Retired since 2005, Dr. Krämer has over 250 patent applications and publications to his name.

Ulrich Schirmer received his PhD in organic chemistry from Stuttgart University (Germany) in 1973, and subsequently carried out his postdoc at Paris-Orsay (France). He joined BASF in 1974, eventually becoming Senior Vice President responsible for plant protection research for chemical synthesis, process development and biological R&amp;D. Since 2003, he has been working as a freelance consultant to start-ups in the fields of biotechnology, chemistry and agriculture. Dr. Schirmer is author and co-author of more than 100 patent applications and scientific publications.

Dr. Peter Bodrogi is a senior research fellow at the Laboratory of Lighting Technology of the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Darmstadt, Germany. He graduated in Physics from the Loránd Eötvös University of Budapest, Hungary. He obtained his PhD degree in Information Technology from the University of Pannonia in Hungary. He has co-authored numerous scientific publications and invented patents about colour vision and self-luminant display technology. He has received several scientific awards including a Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, and the Walsh-Weston Award, Great Britain. He has been member of several Technical Committees of the International Commission of Illumination (CIE).

Prof. Tran Quoc Khanh is University Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Lighting Technology at the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Darmstadt, Germany. He graduated in Optical Technologies, obtained his PhD degree in Lighting Engineering, and his degree of lecture qualification (habilitation) for his thesis in Colorimetry and Colour Image Processing from the Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany. He has gathered industrial experience as a project manager by ARRI CineTechnik in München, Germany. He has been the organizer of the well-known series of international symposia for automotive lighting (ISAL) in Darmstadt, Germany, and is a member of several Technical Committees of the International Commission of Illumination (CIE).

Karl-Heinz Rofalski has been working for more than thirty years as consulting engineer in a world-wide operating German consulting firm in the field of power transmission and distribution. He held the position of project director and manager and gained special knowledge and experience in network planning, design, procedures of tendering and contracting, project monitoring, overall project management in many power projects including assignments in various countries in Africa, the Arab regions and South-East Asia. After graduating from the engineering academy in Kassel/Germany he worked for AEG, one of the manufacturers of electrical equipment, for eight years, and became acquainted with electrical engineering standards and technology. Since 2001 he is active as freelance engineer and independent consultant.

Juergen Schlabbach holds a professorship in power system engineering and renewable energies at the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, Germany. He studied at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he received his Ph.D. on the topic of digital protection of power systems in 1982. For ten years, he worked in a consulting firm in the field of power system planning, disturbance analysis and design of FACTS. During several years in Arabian and Asian countries he advised local utilities in design, planning and operation of power systems and in organizational matters. Professor Schlabbach's areas of expertise are power system planning, grid connection of renewable energy, EMC and operational training.
