A study on filtration system for open canal using metal wire mesh for neneng compound, barangay tisa, cebu city
- Cebu City CIT-U 2014
This study on filtration system for open canal wire mesh for Neneng Compound, Barangay Tisa Cebu City is proposed to minimize the canal problems and to reduce heavy floods that may occur especially in rainy season. The researchers have chosen Neneng Compound, Barangay Tisa Cebu City as the site of the study since it was experienced one of the researcher. The researchers have observed the open canal to study. The residents? experienced flood in that area and noticed solid waste in the canal. Survey questionnaires were given for the respondent. The results were obtained and were graphed. Questionnaire was the main instrument in gathering the data. The result gathered answers what type of solid waste can be easily observed in the canal and where these various wastes originated. The solid wastes that were found were plastics, leaves, papers, rubber and food residue. Furthermore, these could help identify the common problems in an open canal and could lead to a definite solution. Filtration box was strategically placed in the area to help collect the floating solid waste and prevent the existing canal from clogging. Maintenance of the filtration box is vital to accomplish the desired results of this study. In this way we can find out what types of garbage found in the canal and find out where these wastes are coming from. This will also help us discover the effects it has on the community of Neneng compound. The findings of the researchers shows that the application of a filtration box helps in the maintenance of the canal through the prevention of solid waste from clogging the canal. It was also observed that after the filtration basket with proper maintenance the canal condition has improved, this shows that the filtration basket is successfully improved the condition of the canal by the removal of the collected solid wastes. Researchers conclude that the canal was having flooding problems because it couldn?t accommodate the amount of water present due to clogging and breakdown. It is also concluded that one of the causes of the clogging were that some of the canal?s concrete covers would fall into the canal and caused the canal to accumulate garbage. This also concludes that the application of the filtration basket will help in the maintenance of the canal and prevent the concrete slabs from falling into the canal. A recommendation for a seminar concerning proper garbage disposal should be implemented. A fixed schedule on the canal?s maintenance should also be applied along with a waste collection plan.
