TI - Investigative study on the appropriate proportion of concrete hollow block to reach a strenght of 5mpa U1 - T B312 2015 CY - 3 N1 - 000-099 N2 - Concrete hollow block is primarily used as a building material in the construction of walls and of several construction project mainly because it is economical, readily available and has the ability to support compressive loads. The demand for this project is always in all cities and other urban centers due to construction of residential apartment, commercial buildings and industrial buildings. It is being widely used in construction of residential buildings, factories and multi-storied buildings. CHB are commonly used in walls due to its low cost, light weight and ease of ventilation. In several events in the Philippines such as the 7.2 magnitude earthquake which hit mainly Cebu and Bohol, left severe damage on infrastructure mostly on walls . This describes that lad bearing CHB walls could not resists earthquake loads due to its poor quality. Realizing this problem the proponent arrived to an idea of increasing the amount of cement per block from 0.4 kg to 2.0 kg and investigate the appropriate proportion of cement that would reach the desired compressive strength to withstand the above mentioned profound problems and to answer the following questions: 1. IF the ratio of the cement to sand per block is increased would it increase its compressive strength? 2. What ratio can achieved a maximum compressive strength of 5 MPa? The proponents fabricated four samples for each mixtures, a total of 20 samples with its corresponding proportion. The samples were then tested using the UTM and the prevailing mixture that yields 5 MPa was thew one containing 2.0 kg of cement having a proportion of 1:6:25 with a constant amount of water (0.5 liters) ER -
