Summary: Thelma R. Millan; College of Computer Studies, Cebu Institute of Technology; October 2006 SAM05v2 : Basic Pipelining Simulator Prof. Cherry Lyn C. Sta. Romana Adviser This paper describes SAM05v2, the second version of SAM05, which is hypothetical machine based on RISC architecture and uses the DLX data path. SAM05v2 includes a simple pipelining simulator. The simulator offers data forwarding as a solution for data hazard and stalling for control hazard. The subject of this project are undergraduates and graduates who are taking up computer architecture subjects and has no idea of what pipelining is. Based on years of experience in teaching computer architecture, the traditional theory, pen-paper and still-images method proved to be not enough for students to gain better understanding on the concepts of pipelining. The simulator is developed to provide students with an environment that is near to the actual machine to visualize the concept of pipelining.

This paper describes SAM05v2, the second version of SAM05, which is hypothetical machine based on RISC architecture and uses the DLX data path. SAM05v2 includes a simple pipelining simulator. The simulator offers data forwarding as a solution for data hazard and stalling for control hazard.
