BUENAVENTURA D. JAKOSALEM, Jr. School: University of Cebu, Main Campus, Colon Street, Cebu City Date Completed: September 25, 2003 No. of Pages: 101 Statement of the Problem This study primarily aimed to assess the level of computational competence of engineering practitioners in applying selected First-Order First-Degree Differential Equations (FOFDDE) in six highly industrialized companies in Cebu as basis for improvement. It further aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of 1.1 age, 1.2 sex, 1.3 course being completed or professional license obtained, 1.4 school where course was completed, 1.5 number of years? experience, 1.6 Position or designation? 2. What theories and concepts of FOFDDE are applied in the industries? 3. What areas in the workforce need the competence of the engineering practitioners in solving FOFDDE? 4. What level of computational competence has the personnel projected? 5. Is the level of computational competence of the respondents dependent on their number of years of experience? 6. How many the application of selected FOFDDE be improved based on the findings of the study? SUMMARY Using the descriptive method of research, specifically the normative survey through the use of the questionnaire, the researcher conducted the study in six different industries located all over Metro Cebu of which ten respondents were from National Power Corporation, eight from General Milling Corporation, seven from Mactan Rock Industries, six from San Miguel Corporation and five from Visayan Electric Company. To determine the profile of the respondents, theories and concepts applied in the industries, areas in the workforce which need computational competence and the level of computational competence has the employed personnel projected, the researcher employed simple percentage formula. The results served as the bases in the formulation of the findings, conclusions and recommendations.

Statement of the Problem

This study primarily aimed to assess the level of computational competence of engineering practitioners in applying selected First-Order First-Degree Differential Equations (FOFDDE) in six highly industrialized companies in Cebu as basis for improvement.
It further aimed to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of
1.1 age,
1.2 sex,
1.3 course being completed or professional license obtained,
1.4 school where course was completed,
1.5 number of years? experience,
1.6 Position or designation?

SUMMARY

Using the descriptive method of research, specifically the normative survey through the use of the questionnaire, the researcher conducted the study in six different industries located all over Metro Cebu of which ten respondents were from National Power Corporation, eight from General Milling Corporation, seven from Mactan Rock Industries, six from San Miguel Corporation and five from Visayan Electric Company.
To determine the profile of the respondents, theories and concepts applied in the industries, areas in the workforce which need computational competence and the level of computational competence has the employed personnel projected, the researcher employed simple percentage formula. The results served as the bases in the formulation of the findings, conclusions and recommendations.
