Most of the programming language you are likely to have heard of, such as Pascal, FORTRAN,C,C++,BASIC and Visual Basic, are also high-level language. Unfortunately, compiler hardware does not understand high-level languages. Before a program written in a high-level language can be run, it must be translated into a language that the computer can uinderstand. The language that the computer can (more directly) understand re called low-level language. The translation of a program from a high-level language, like java, to a low-level language is performed by another program known as a compiler. Compiler it mains a program that translates a high-level- language program, such as a java program, into a program in a simplex language that the computer can more or less directly understand. The java compiler is the one who translate to java programs into a language called byte-code. This byte-code is not a machine language for a particular computer, but is a language that is similar to the machine language of the most common computers and that is very easy to translate in the machine language of ant particular operating system. Each type of compiler will have its own translations to machine language instructions fot that particular computer. And utilizes or implements the java programming language.
