Publisher: Cebu City ; CIT-U ; 2015DDC classification: T M2955 2015 Summary: Knowing that calamansi highly contains limonene, a chemical that was proven to kill termites and also chilli has an active component called capsaicin which is irritant to mammals, including human, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes in contact to, the researchers decided to undertake a study entitled, ?An Investigative Study on Calamansi and Chillias an Effective Termite Killer?. Calamansi and chilli are organic, so application of the mixture is safe for the environment. The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of calmansi fruit and chilli as termite killer. To test the effectiveness of the mixture, six sites were chosen. Te first one was in Hilongos, Leyte while the other four was in Siquijor and the last one was in Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City. All six sites were found to have great infestation of termites. The objective of the study was to find out if chili juice can be used as an additive to calamnsi that can kill termites faster than pure calamansi. Calamansi juice with chili was extracted using a blender and a juicer. Spray bottles were used in applying the solution to the area where termites are found. Variations were done for the chili content of the solution to also test the effectiveness. From the result obtained, a conclusion has been made that calamansi juice with added chili can kill termites, faster and more effectively than pure calamansi. And the more mature the mixture, the faster it kills wood termites. The mixture is diluted with a certain amount of water making it economical. The consumer may either choose between 25 grams, 50 grams or 100 grams of chili to be added in the solution depending how fast they want to eliminate the termites, Thus, all three choices can eliminate all termites in the area with time differences. Comparing the effectiveness of the calamansi juice with chili to the commercially available Solignum, a cost analysis was made. Several variations of the amount of chili were made to achieve the most economical amount of the mixture. Having this, it is concluded that using the 25 grams of chili in attaining the effective solution is the most economical one to be used since chili is much more expensive than calamansi. The mixture of calamansi and chilli is highly effective in killing the termites compared to calamansi. Further effectiveness is attained by a more aged mixture. This organic mixture is cheaper than the commercial termite killer.Item type | Current location | Home library | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds |
