Publisher: Cebu City ; CIT-U ; 2015DDC classification: T C1129 2015 Summary: There are water shortages in Sitio Kayam, Sitio Monumento and Sitio Chicosan because of the problems involved with the existing water supply system. Leakages, uneven sizing of pipes causing back pressure and water loss and unwanted local practice of inserting hoses to the main pipeline are the main causes of water supply shortage. The local government unit in Baranagy Napu have decided to have a separate water supply system for the said communities. The purpose for this study was to help the local government unit design a cost efficient system that would be able to provide sufficient amount of water for the affected communities. This study aimed to identify the factors that would help in the design of water distribution system. This includes the proposed pipeline route, the sufficiency of the water usage of the affected communities and the recommended design for the system. The study conducted with a preliminary investigation of the area, a route survey to get the profile and layout of the system, and hydraulic analysis to determine an efficient design. The result of the survey and analysis showed that the water source with a capacity 5.73 L/s able to provide ample water supply for the receiving communities having a demand of 5.780 L/s on a 10 year period design. The lay-out of pipes started from the location of the spring down to the first lowest elevation point, then up to the 1st highest elevation to reach the 2nd highest elevation point where the 1st storage tank is located then down to the 2nd storage tank. The design would consist of tanks ? spring catchment, header and storage tanks. Galvanized Pipes were used for the design because of its life span and strength capability. To determine if water was able to reach the desired location of the tanks, computation and analysis on the head loss and change of pressure heads between 2 sets of pipe diameters was done. The first set having diameter sizes of 4?, 3? and 2? and the second set having diameters of 6?, 4? and 3?. The results showed that the most efficient pipe sizes to be used was a 6 inch, 4 inch, and 3 inch diameter on the system. Design 1 and Design 4 of the second set was concluded to be effective to deliver the water to the tanks with enough energy and pressure. However due to cost difference, Design 4 was decided as the recommended design for the piping works. System should be maintained well to assure an extended life of the water supply facilities. A public utility commission was recommended to manage the water distribution system. Its responsibility would include hiring trained personnel to do repairs, record water consumptions and billings, and coordinate with the local government unit for improvements of the operation and management of the system. In this way, the local communities will be encourage to manage their water consumption properly and also help in the maintenance of the system.Item type | Current location | Home library | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds |

System should be maintained well to assure an extended life of the water supply facilities. A public utility commission was recommended to manage the water distribution system.
