Publisher: Cebu City ; CIT-U ; 2013DDC classification: T Ab14 2013 Summary: In the practice of civil engineering, structural analysis is a very important part in undertaking a project, especially in the planning process. In structural analysis, it is important that one has to do model testing aside from the analysis done in different structural analysis softwares. This study, entitled ?Studying Theory of Structures by Means of Models: Measurement of the Load Capacity and Displacement of Different Framing Systems? is focusing on the measurement of the load capacity and displacement of the different framing systems. This study is very important since this will determine the behavior of the different framing systems in the action of the loads. This can also be beneficial in studying the theory of structures by using models. The researchers experimented different model of framing systems. The researchers measured each framing system on its load capacity and its corresponding displacement. Then the stiffness K was computed on each framing system. The results were compared to the theoretical calculations using different formulas in computing the deflection of the framing systems. Out of the results of the researcher?s experiment as well as the theoretical calculations, the researchers come to the conclusion that the truss compression system has greatest horizontal rigidity compared to the rest of the framing systems. The researchers also found out the importance of placing a support (e.g. brace of plate) to the rigid frame system in order to increase the horizontal rigidity. After these experiments, the researchers highly recommended that in manufacturing the model structures, the joints must be strengthened to reduce the effects of joint deformation. Also, it is also best to prevent the twisting failure of the framing system due to the load. Lastly, the researchers highly recommended that the future researchers try different model test structures in order to have more options in selecting the best framing system in terms of its stiffness.
