Preferred teaching styles and teacher attributes as perceived by the fourth year high school students of Cebu Institute of Technology - University : basis for a proposed program

University. It sought answers to the following questions: (1) What is the profile of the participants in terms of age, birth order, and gender? (2) What kind/s of teaching style do fourth year high school students prefer to have for a teacher in terms of authoritarian, permissive, detached and authoritative? (3) What attributes of a teacher would students prefer to have in terms of instructional skills, classroom management, personal qualities and adviser?s responsibilities? (4) How do students adapt with different teaching styles of teachers? (5) What program may be proposed for students to enhance their learning adaptability? The data were gathered using survey questionnaires. The survey questionnaires are composed of two parts: the profile and the determination of the preferred teaching styles ad teacher attributes of the fourth year high school students. Books, journals were read; websites were visited to collect information pertinent to this study. The study was conducted in Cebu Institute of Technology ? University particularly in the High School Department. The participants are the fourth year high school students. The study would determine the preferred teaching styles and teacher attributes as perceived by the fourth year high school students of Cebu Institute of Technology ? University. Based from the data gathered, the results showed that the participants preferred the Authoritative teaching style in which they strongly agreed on. The first among the ranks of the preferred teacher attributes are the following: shows mastery of the lessons presented; implements school/classroom rules and regulations consistently; considerate, supportive, approachable and understanding; and supervises his or her students in activities that require his or her presence such as flag ceremony, mass, etc. And the most preferred way of adapting with the different teaching styles of their teachers is maintaining the respect of their teacher.
