Hinoguin<br/>YEAR COMPLETED: 2008<br/><br/><br/>Statement of the Problem:<br/> <br/> The purpose of this clinical paper is to use King?s Goal Attainment Theory in the care of a patient with cerebrovascular disorder.<br/> <br/> This is the case study in the care of M. N., a patient with cerebrovascular disorder (Infarct- left mid cerebral artery) utilizing King?s Goal Attainment Theory. The following questions were answered: 1. What are the alterations of the following systems of the patient according to: personal, interpersonal and social system? 2. Based on the identified altered systems, what agreed transactions are implemented? 3. What home care management can be designed based on transactions?<br/><br/>Methodology:<br/><br/> The researcher used the descriptive method of research through a case study that was conducted in the Medical Ward (Ward IX) of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The researcher locale is a tertiary government medical center with 800 beds capacity. <br/> <br/> Before the researcher started the 50 hours intensive practicum a letter of approval was sent to Dr. Floriza N. Laplap, Dean, Graduate School through Dr. Marylou B. Ong, Dean, College of Nursing and a letter of intent was sent to Dr. Alma B. Ungab, Chief Nurse of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The researcher rendered 8 hours per day to complete the 50 hours.<br/><br/>Findings:<br/><br/> In the care of patient M.N. utilizing Imogene King?s Goal Attainment Theory, patient is able to move safely and ambulates with assistance. She is able to move her right arm without assistance and able to stand more than 10 minutes alone. She demonstrates participation in passive exercises and slowly doing active exercises within her limits. Family and friends were involved in the plan of care. She considered her family and friends as her support system.<br/> During discharge the patient was able to stand without assistance for more than 10 minutes and she ambulated without assistance for one week. The blood pressure and blood sugar were controlled, and the patient was referred to the rehabilitation center and diabetic clinic for the control of diabetes mellitus.<br/><br/>Conclusion: <br/><br/> The researcher concluded that the use of King?s theory of Goal Attainment has been successfully implemented and found to be effective. The patient was able to attain agreed transaction, goals and was therefore discharged.<br/><br/>Recommendations:<br/><br/>Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made:<br/>1. In the patient care management, the King?s theory of Goal Attainment be utilized in order to ensure effective and efficient nursing care;<br/>2. King?s theory of Goal Attainment be applied in all areas of nursing practice, be sick or well, hospital or in the home;<br/>3. Lastly, this study is recommended to be replicated by other nursing practitioners.
