Summary, etc Shelter is one of the basic needs of humans to survive daily. It is everybody?s desire to live comfortably in a well-built house. But with the increase in the cost of the building materials, labor and its maintenance cost nowadays, this desire is far from reality. To resolve this existing concern, the government implements low-cost housing projects for the less fortunate families like Lower Tipolo Homeowners Association Inc. (LTHAI) in Lower Tipolo, Mandaue City and Saint Arnold Janssen Village in So-ongLapu-Lapu City. Still, there is no assurance that the residents can sustain their satisfaction in living in these housing projects as years go by.
This research study entitled, ?Investigation and Identification of the Different Problems Encountered in Low-Cost Housing in Tipolo, Mandaue and So-ong, Lapu-Lapu as Basis for Recommendation? would not only help the government to build future housing projects but also minimizes the different problems encountered by the house owners in their respective homes.
Using a survey questionnaire, the researchers conducted a personalized interview with families which belong to the housing projects in Tipolo, Mandaue City and So-ongLapu-Lapu City. As researchers, it is important to visit, investigate and observe the site in order to fully visualize the problem of the place. In this way, the researchers will be able to find solutions to the problems. The main problems surfaced: Grading/Drainage, Roof Damage, Electrical Wiring, Structural Related Problems, Plumbing, Poor ventilation, Dust, Break-ins, Water Splash from Rain, Neighbors and Rain.
It was revealed in the survey that the two barangays have different main problems encountered due to its location, environment and material used for their houses. In So-ong, Lapu-Lapu City, the two main problems are drainage and roof damages. In the case of drainage problems, the researchers recommended a concrete slab surrounding the drainage cover so that no extra soil will drain to the drainage. While in the case of roof damages, the researchers suggest installing the gutter properly since it has already had a good design. In Tipolo, Mandaue City, the two main problems are ventilation and surface grading. In the case of ventilation problems, the researchers recommend Proper ventilation should be installed. It could be in the upper wall where you can install air vents. While in the case of surface grading, the researchers suggest to smoothen at least the flooring of the house to please the residents when they use and enter the house.
With these findings, the researchers come up to a solution that was feasible for future housing projects which can accommodate residents? convenience and which is free from hazard and pollution. This could enhance the remedies of the problems encountered for future housing projects.
