Summary, etc |
Foundation is the lowest and supporting layer of a structure. It is designed to carry the total load of the structure with limited settlement. The foundation of the building depends on the characteristic of the soil and its bearing capacity. Foundations are categorized into two: shallow foundation and deep foundation. Shallow foundation are usually embedded about a meter or so into soil while deep foundation is used to transfer the load of a structure down through the upper weak layer of top soil to the stronger layer of subsoil below.
In this present time, construction booms particularly here in Cebu City. High-rise buildings are slowly filling the empty space and towering up into the sky. Commercial buildings, malls and condominiums are the most common structures that dominate most in the city.
Studying the foundation gives us the idea how this project was implemented and what are the factors to be considered in designing the foundation. Problems in the soil and its bearing capacity should be accounted in order to make the project more effective and safe. It will benefit us the way it benefits the others in terms of safety and sound mind. |
