Summary, etc This paper highlights the Study on the Capability of Two-Storey Building to Resist Earthquake at Barangay Luz, Cebu City As Basis for Recommendation. As defined, the earthquake is a result of a sudden released of energy in the Earth?s crust that created seismic waves resulting in more or less severe damage to buildings and other rigid structures, as well as to human beings.Since earthquake is a major geologic hazard. This study was then conducted to accomplish various goals in achieving complimentary results, precisely, to examine the sustainability and capability of existing two-storey residential buildings in Barangay Luz with respect to earthquake load, to determine if surveyed-houses have met set of standards reflected in the building code (National Structural Code of the Philippines), to identify the materials being utilized and recommend effective approach in improving the existing buildings. Primarily, this study is limited to the analysis of ten (10) existing houses with regards to their structural features or components and the safety they generate to the residents. Quantitative type of methodology was applied in the study. Ten (10) existing houses were chosen from different locations within the area of the study. The researchers carried out an inspection and analysis on every different two-storey residential building.<br/> The results of the analusis showed that there were apparently bigger differences with respect to actual and designed dimensions. It was found that columns used in actual settings were not adequate; hence they were not literally safe for the residences. The researchers recommend that actual dimensions should be increased and additional reinforcement to building components should also be utilized. Moreover, barangay officials should endeavor to send building inspectors to every house or any governing body, which will give an opinion to buildings or structures in the barangay, whether safe or unsafe for the public. Barangay officials should also encourage the citizens of their barangay to be keen and cautious as always as possible. Moreover, they should also educate the citizens concerning earthquakes or any calamity preparedness.
